Prisonshow episode 44:
We are back with a podcast in English.
The killing of George Floyd created a massive reaction in the US and also internationally. We all know that what happened is not something new or exceptional. Our own Dutch prime minister spoke about the horrible killing of George Floyd and said that the Netherlands also have to deal with “systemic racism”.
We are honored to welcome a very a widely respected and inspirational Afro-American activist, Bryonn Bain.
Bryonn Bain is Associate Professor at Department of African American Studies and Department of World Arts and Cultures/Danc UCLA, but he comes from Brooklyn.
He is Brooklyn’s own prison activist, actor, hip hop theater innovator and spoken word poetry champion. Playing over 40 characters in his one-man theater production: "Lyrics From Lockdown". This show tells the story of Bain’s wrongful imprisonment through hip hop theater, blues, calypso, comedy and letters exchanged with fellow poet and friend, Nanon Williams – who was wrongfully sentenced to Death Row at 17 years old and still in prison.
